The conversation I'm still punishing myself for
Published about 14 hours ago • 3 min read
Reader, have you ever had a conversation that could make or break a friendship?
I did. Last November. I kind of, sort of revealed deeper feelings for a friend I had. And it broke our friendship.
I’m still punishing myself for it.
Last weekend there was a metaphysical fair near Denver and I got an akashic records reading. Despite a part of me yelling, “Why is this still a thing?!? Can we PLEASE move on?” I asked the reader about my now deceased friendship.
It’s still on my mind and heart because she’s part of a larger group I’m in. Every time I see her, a part of me feels doubt and shame.
The reader told me, “You’re still a learner when it comes to relationships. And it makes sense that you messed up. You fell and skinned your knees. That’s part of the process.”
She told me that this relationship showed me something precious – the deep desire I have for love and connection. “You’re not meant to be alone in this lifetime,” she said. “But don’t go out and try to meet your soulmate. Date. See what you like and what you don’t like. Don’t fall head over heels for every person you’re with. Let yourself be a learner.”
I left the reading feeling lighter. Instead of this break in my friendship feeling like a colossal fuckup, I could see it as a beginner’s injury. I could be proud that I had the courage to be seen…even if it ended in pain.
Since my reading, I’ve spoken to two clients who are also messily transforming their relationships. I shared the same wisdom with them: “It’s okay to do this imperfectly. This is new and you don’t know what you’re doing yet.”
One of my favorite cards in Lindsay Mack’s Soul Tarot deck is the 3 of Wands, a card about being ready for something new. It depicts a half-completed bridge over a steep drop.
Most 3 of Wands cards show someone looking off into the distance, preparing for an adventure. It feels exciting and free.
But I think this half-finished bridge is a more accurate depiction of starting a new chapter (or trying to). Because most of the time, it doesn’t feel exciting and free. It feels terrifying and messy.
There have probably been moments when you felt the pull to traverse the bridge. To reveal your feelings to someone you liked, or to leave a toxic relationship, or to tell the truth to someone who needed to hear it, or to try a new thing that felt equally vulnerable and exciting.
What did you do?
Did you walk across the bridge, one shaky step at a time? Did you choose to stay in the safety of the known? Maybe you were forced to cross over.
Are you considering making a change right now, as you read these words?
If so, I want you to know this:
Making a big change is hard. It is risky. You may fall on your face like I did. You may get your heart broken. You may hurt someone by accident. You may break something – a friendship, a promise, a fantasy of what could have been.
But if you know that the price of not crossing is abandoning yourself, then maybe all the risk is worth it. And also…maybe it’s not up to you anyway.
If you're standing at your own bridge right now, I can help you cross it...or at least take the first steps.
We can do a single reading if you want a space to unpack what’s going on, to connect to your guides through tarot, and get astrological insight into the deeper themes in your life.
Or you can sign up for ongoing support if you want a partner for the crossing. Book a one-off reading or hit reply if you have questions about either option.
Here’s to you and your bravery,
Daniela
🎴 Pick a Card (or 2):
Every time I send an email, I open my Notion tarot deck, go to the "Pull a Card" view, and click two random cards.
This time, both cards that came up are about contending with change, grief, and loss. It feels appropriate given the big changes many of us experienced during eclipse season. (What a doozy!)
Whatever changes you're experiencing in your life, these cards are here to provide support and validation. Change and loss is HARD, even when it's also good. I hope one or both of these cards can help you get through the hard things with a bit more kindness to yourself. ❤️

Hi Reader! What comes up for you when you read the words “inner child”? When I think of my inner child, I first imagine a little girl, sitting on the playground under the play structure, watching the other kids play and feeling sad and left out. A lot of my “inner child work” involves sitting on the gravel with little Daniela and telling her that I’m with her and I love her. (Being a Scorpio Moon, of course the first thing that comes up is the pain and challenge of being a kid in a small,...
Hi Reader! Yesterday, after feeling hurt by two people in my life, I wrote this sentence in my journal: I am done hiding. I started hiding as a kid. (And not in a hide and seek kind of way.) I ran away any time I had strong feelings that I didn’t know what to do with. Desire, fear, sadness, anger…any intense feeling was a reason to run. It was only decades later that I learned about my Scorpio Moon and began the slow (and still ongoing) process of befriending my deeply feeling self. You may...
Reader, what brings you pleasure? For me, it’s a hot cup of coffee in the morning, the feel of my dog’s soft fur under my hand, a tiny bouquet from the farmer’s market on the table. Pleasure is walking through an airport blasting Third Eye Blind in my AirPods, the knowledge of an upcoming adventure singing through my veins. Pleasure is crawling into bed and pulling the covers over my tired body after an exhausting day. Pleasure is pausing in the middle of a duet with my daughter and watching...
